Home Proofing Against Rats

  • Roof rats will find openings for access into attic spaces
  • Once a potential entrance is found the rat will gnaw to enlarge the opening
  • Expanding foam works best in larger penetration
  • Caulk all cracks & small holes
  • Use mesh to cover all other openings in fascia, vents and attic openings
  • Secure pet doors at night

PUBS – Personal Use Bait Station

  • PUBS containing Just One Bite® are the most effective method for eliminating and controlling roof rats, especially when they are used in conjunction with snap traps
  • Just One Bite® is the most effective rodenticide. It's a Bromadiolone poison that is available at selected local home improvement, livestock feed, and hardware stores
  • The PUBS unit will protect the Just One Bite® poison from the weather and sunlight, extending its viability

image885

Using the PUBS:

  • Place in trees or along suspected paths of travel for the best success in fighting roof rats
  • Place one quarter of the Just One Bite® poison bar in the PUBS unit
  • Make sure your home is secured so the roof rat will not be able to access your attic to die there. They will produce a foul odor when they perish since they are oily animals

image886

What to expect:

  • The roof rat will eat the single kill poison, leave the trap, and will die within 3 to 5 days
  • Check bait traps weekly for any replacement needs. As long as there is roof rat activity in your neighborhood, it will be necessary to maintain the bait station to defend against future rodent intrusion
